A former Chief Judge of Lagos State
New elections were held at the ongoing FIFA Congress on Thursday, May 11 which saw Vassilios Skouris of Greece, a former president of the European Court of Justice, elected head of the committee.
She is the first Nigerian to serve in this capacity and she will serve a four-year mandate.
Who is she?
Phillips is the immediate past Chief Judge of Lagos State was born in London in 1949.
According to information on her page, the graduate of the University of Lagos joined the Ministry of Justice in 1990 and attained the rank of a High Court Judge in 1994.
In 2012, she was she was appointed as the Chief Judge of Lagos by former governor Babatunde Fashola before she retired in 2014.
In 2016, she was confirmed as the Chairman of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).
What’s her connection to football?
Justice Phillips does not have any connection with football. This is because the members of FIFA Ethical judicial bodies must not serve as members of the Executive Committee or any other of FIFA's standing committees.
It was the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) that submitted her name to FIFA.
She is the first Nigerian that will serve on this committee.
FIFA Ethics Committee
The FIFA Ethics Committee is an independent body which is primarily responsible for investigating possible infringements of the FIFA Code of Ethics.
Since 2012, it has been divided into two separate chambers – the investigatory chamber and the adjudicatory chamber.
