Muhammadu Buhari’s led government commenced the cleaning-up of oil spills in the communities that have been affected by crude exploration over the years.

In one of his first public duties as a chief in Ogoni, his birth place, Yobo urged his people to be collectively involved in the Ogoniland clean up process.

In a Twitter photo of him speaking at the ceremony, the former Nigerian defender expressed his commitment to play his part in the process.

“Today marks the beginning of the end of our environmental nightmare," the 35-year-old wrote on Instagram along with the hashtags #Chiefyobo and #ogonicleanup.

Just a day after his testimonial match in Port Harcourt, the former Everton defender was conferred with a chieftaincy title in Rivers State.

He was given the title of The Mene Aborlo 1 and Waamene Aborlo 1 of Ogoni, Rivers State.
