England defender Gary Cahill believes John Stones is capable of winning 100 caps with the national team.

Stones, 22, has already made 13 England appearances and looks set to be at the heart of the defence for years to come.

Cahill, who won his 50th cap in the draw with Slovenia, feels the Manchester City defender could play 100 international games.

"John is a top player, and I've played with a lot of other centre-backs," he said, via the Mirror.

"He's moved to Manchester City and he's going to be under great guidance there and be playing in great, massive games. He's going to keep progressing and he's a massive talent."

Cahill added: "To get 100 caps, you have to come in early, like some of the boys here. You have to come in at 20, 21 and start every single game for 11 years to get there. So to half that is some achievement.

"There are loads who can do that. Everything's changed in our squad but to do that you have to be picked regularly for 11-12 years.

"So those boys can do that, but for me to come in at the halfway mark and get 50 caps up until now is a great achievement."

Chelsea's Cahill is pleased with his partnership alongside Stones, with the duo having helped England to three consecutive clean sheets.

A 1-0 win in World Cup qualifying in Slovakia was followed by a victory over Malta and draw with Slovenia.

"We have played the last three games together and had three clean sheets," Cahill said.

"When you concede goals you get criticised so when you keep that many clean sheets it is pleasing for us as defenders."
