Newcastle legend tongue lashes Chelsea's Nigerian midfielder

Mikel stood in for Serbian defender Nemanja Matic in the game against Newcastle

Chelsea lost their unbeaten record to Newcastle on Saturday when they were stunned with a Papiss Cisse double.

The Blues struggled to come back at the 83 minute to at least level with a draw but it turn out right for them.

Alan Shearer, a Newcastle legend was excited that his old team broke the back of Jose Mourinho, but he also lambasted Chelsea players for their low-performance.

Most notably, Shearer blamed Mikel for not doing the proper job at midfield.

“Chelsea didn’t play that well.

“There is no doubt they missed Nemanja Matic. He has started every game for them this season but John Mikel Obi was in there against Newcastle and didn’t do as well,’’ Shearer said on BBC Sport.

“That said it was a really committed Newcastle performance. They were really well organised and every player knew what job they had to do. It was a thoroughly deserved win,’’ he concluded.
