Rivers State Sports Commissioner, Boma Iyaye says death of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) defender, Izu Joseph, represents another dark chapter in the history Nigerian football.

Iyaye urged the 3SC family to show strength over the sad turn of events, while urging security operatives to fish out killers of Izu.

A statement released in Port Harcourt on Wednesday by Sammy Wejinya, Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Commissioner said the death of the vibrant young man had cut short his career at his prime.

“I have since sent my personal condolences to 3SC on behalf of the sports family in Rivers. I also urge the Izu family to be strong in this period of sadness.

“I am also using this medium to call on security operatives to embark on exhaustive investigations with a view to bringing the killers of the late Izu to book,” he said.

The late player, who joined 3SC in the 2013/2014 season from Bayelsa United had just completed his third season at Oluyole Warriors.

It was gathered that the defender was hit by a stray bullet while others insist that he was shot dead by security men on operation at his home town, Okaki, Ahoada-West Local Government Area of Rivers.
