A Kelechi John’s solitary strike was all Plateau United needed to halt Ikorodu United FC’s five-match unbeaten run.

John got his head to a cross from Bright Silas’s cross to score Plateau United’s winner in the game.

With just two games to go this season and just six points at stake, it is mathematically impossible for the Oga Boys to avoid the drop.

They join Giwa FC who were expelled by organisers of the NPFL in the Nigeria National League (NNL) next season.

Akwa United, Niger Tornadoes, Shooting Stars, Heartland, Abia Warriors, Warri Wolves and MFM FC, are also in danger of joining them.

From 34 games, Ikorodu United FC have just 32 points after losing 16 games, drawing 11 and winning seven.

Ikorodu United FC this season fired two managers as they found life hard in Nigeria’s top division.

The first casualty was Edema Benson who was demoted to the role of assistant coach after an indecent start.

Sam Okpodu was brought in before he was sacked and replaced with Dutchman, Theodorus Jacob de Jong.
