Kelechi Iheanacho Striker says his dad forced him to join Manchester City

Iheanacho signed for Manchester City academy in January 2014 and was promoted to the first team in August 2015.

Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho has revealed that it was his dad’s choice for him to join Manchester City.

Iheanacho signed for Manchester City academy in January 2014 and was promoted to the first team in August 2015.

The Imo-State born striker sparked a bidding war between Porto and Manchester City after his impressive performance for Nigeria at the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

He won the Golden Ball award for player of the tournament scoring six times and providing seven assists to help Nigeria win the trophy.

Iheanacho revealed that he wanted to join Porto before his dad forced him to sign for Manchester City.

After the tournament, a few European clubs were interested in signing me: Arsenal, Porto and some others. And also, of course, Manchester City. I did not know much about these clubs,” Iheanacho told Players Tribune.

I thought I would choose Porto because I knew many African players had success with the club in the past.

“I didn’t really believe that I could play at City because they had so many incredible players.

“But my father told me that I should choose City because he believed that I could achieve great things there. So I listened to my father”.

Iheanacho has won just one trophy since joining Manchester City, the Carling Cup in 2016.
