Everton completed the signing of Onyekuru on Tuesday, June 27 but the player announced the deal himself on Instagram.
“So happy to sign for Everton #thankful #everton,” Onyekuru wrote alongside a photo of himself in Everton shirt in front of a large Everton club crest.
Everton have finally released a statement to confirm the signing of the 20-year-old Super Eagles player.
In a statement released on Friday, June 30, Everton also confirmed that they are sending the player back to Belgium on a season-long loan deal at Anderlecht.
Onyekuru finished last season as the joint leading scorer in the Belgian Super League with 22 goals in 38 games.
Everton have fought off competition from Arsenal and West Ham to land the highly rated 20-year-old, who signed a five-year contract until the end of June 2022.
He is Everton’s third signing this summer following the arrivals of goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and midfielder Davy Klaassen from Sunderland and Ajax respectively.
