Arsenal win appeal for defender

Gabriel was sent off towards the end of the first half after a scuffle with Diego Costa of Chelsea

Arsenal have won an appeal against the sending off of their defender Gabriel Paulista in their 0-2 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Gabriel was dismissed for kicking out at the Chelsea forward during Saturday's ill-tempered clash at Stamford.

Arsenal however appealed the decision and the FA announced on Tuesday, September 22 that they have accepted the appeal and withdrawn the three-match suspension.

Gabriel still faces a separate charge of improper conduct for his reaction after being shown the red card by referee Mike Dean.

Costa is also awaiting the decision of the FA about his actions during the game which caused the scuffle.

The striker struck at the face of Laurent Koscielny's face twice before his scuffle with Gabriel led to the dismissal of the Arsenal defender.

Costa, antics is well known as he regularly tries to wind up opposition players to react and get red cards.

Even his own teammate, Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma admitted that the striker loves to cheat in order to win.

"No, we're not surprised because we know Diego," Zouma said after the game.

"Everyone knows Diego and this guy likes to cheat a lot and put the opponent out of his game.

"That happened in the game but he's a really nice guy. We're proud to have him, like the other players, and we're happy to win this."
