29 Nigerian referees get FIFA license

After snubbing Nigerian referees for the 2018 World Cup, FIFA has granted 29 referees license for several competitions in 2019.

Nigerian referees missed out on the    2018 FIFA World Cup

The Nigeria Football Referees Association (NRA) were given FIFA licenses for the 2019 football calendar year on Monday, January 14 in Kano State.

Nigerian referees will officiate in three tournaments in 2019 the Beach Soccer, Men Futsal and 11-Aside football competitions.

The awardees included seven male and assistant referees with three female referees and four female  assistant referees for the football events.

Four male referees were also given license to officiate the Beach soccer and Futsal tournaments.

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president Amaju Pinnick was not present at the occasion but his 1st Vice President was there along with NRA president Tade Azeez .

Azeez addressed the referees present at the occasion not to be disturbed that recent events that occurred in the 2019 matchday one Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) fixture between Plateau United and FC Ifeanyi Ubah.

He urged the referees to be of good behaviour and discharge their duties effectively when called upon.

He said, “Don’t be disturbed by the Jos incident. We are waiting for the appropriate authorities to make pronouncements before any action.

"Do your best for our game to grow. Apply best practices in the course of discharging your duties and don’t succumb to the antics of players and clubs to derail the good officiating system we have started for the season."
