Africans were impressive at the the opening matches of the English Premier League 2015/16 season scoring a third of the 30 goals scored in matchday 1.

Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure scored two as Manchester City brushed by West Brom 3-0 on Monday night while Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez on Saturday, August 8 also netted a brace for Leicester in their 4-2 win against Sunderland.

Senegal international Cheikhou Kouyate scored in West Ham shock 2-0 victory at Arsenal while Ivory Coast striker Arouna Kone netted a late equaliser for Everton against new promoted Watford.

Kone wrestled out a point for Everton after Nigeria international Odion Ighalo gave Watford the lead in the game.

Benin Republic Rudy Gestede scored the winner as Aston Villa beat Premier League new boys Bournemouth 1-0 at Dean Court.

Ghana forward Andre Ayew scored on his league debut for Swansea in their impressive 2-2 draw with Chelsea while Senegal striker Papiss Cisse netted for Newcastle in their 2-2 draw with Southampton.
