Most children would love to live with their mothers to experience that maternal love, but Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli, he needed to be given up by his to become what he us today.

The mother of the 19-year-old old gave him up for adoption so he could fulfil his dream of becoming a top footballer.

Alli was just 13 when social services began to threaten to remove him from his mother due to her alcohol addiction.

In order for the boy not to grow up in that hazardous environment, Alli went to live full-time with the family of fellow footballer Harry Hickford, now 20, six miles away.

52-year-old Denise revealed that she suffered from a severe booze addiction, revealing that she was 'hooked' on vodka, beer or anything she could get her hands on.

“I knew that was the only way he could fulfil his dream of becoming a professional footballer," Denise told Sunday Sun.

“It was tough to give up my son but it proved to be his salvation. I’m so thankful for how things have turned out.”

Now a regular Premier League player with Tottenham and a full England international, his mother Denise is proud of her decision to give her up.

He scored in England's 2-0 win over France in a friendly played in November at Wembley and his mother revealed she wept in joy at her son's feat.

“When he scored the goal against France I leapt out of my seat — I was so happy. My son has made it by himself. I am so pleased for him and super-proud of everything he has achieved.”

Alli was never formally adopted and still remains close to his biological father, Nigerian businessman Kenny, who now lives in Houston, Texas.
