When you play for your football clubs you can achieve a lot of things, but when you play for your country, not many things beat that,” Shittu said.

“For you to be there when they are singing the national anthem, for you to be there fighting for your country, it’s something very deep and serious and I thank God I was able to be part of that.”

The defender who’s currently a free agent was speaking to Pulse TV at the testimonial of former Super Eagles captain, Joseph Yobo.

Shittu played with Yobo in central defence for many years in the Super Eagles set-up and the former Bolton defender praised his former teammate for his service for Nigeria.

“It’s not easy to have games for your team, when you go on and have 100 games for your country, it is something everybody wants to achieve,” he said.
