Sope Hammed said the team must look forward to expressing themselves in the continental competition
Hammed made the call in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Thursday by Rivers United Media Officer, Sammy Wejinya.
Enyimba, seven-time Nigerian professional league champions, won the champions league two times.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that United qualified for the 2016/2017 season of the CAF competition after finishing second in the 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
Hammed said that players and officials of United must look forward to expressing themselves in the continent in spite of being the first time it would be participating in the continental tournament.
“No one has heard about United on the continent, but a few years ago, that was the case with the two-time African champions, Enyimba.
“With hard work, focus and early determination, we can achieve what Enyimba did some years ago in the CAF Champions League.
“A lot of people felt we would be relegated when the season started but we knew what we wanted and kept our eyes on the prize,” he said.
