Barcelona Players boycott La Liga ceremony over Enrique snub

Enrique was not even on the nominee's list, in protest, his players did not attend the award which held in Valencia.

Barcelona players boycotted the La Liga awards ceremony on the night of Monday, October 24 in over coach Luis Enrique snub.

Despite leading Barcelona to the La Liga title in the 2015/2016 season, Enrique lost the best coach category to Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone.

The Barcelona coach was not even on the nominee's list, in protest, his players did not attend the award which held in Valencia.

Despite their absence, Lionel Messi was named best forward while Luis Suarez won World Player of the Year.

Atletico Madrid forward, Antoine Griezmann was the star of the night, winning the Player of the Year award.

Real's Luka Modric took home the best midfielder award while Jan Oblak of Atletico Madrid won goalkeeper of the year.

The awards were voted by team captains while a data analysis system generated the overall best player award.

Best player: Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid)

Best coach: Diego Simeone (Atletico Madrid)

Best goalkeeper: Jan Oblak (Atletico Madrid)

Best defender: Diego Godin (Atletico Madrid)

Best midfielder: Luka Modric (Real Madrid)

Best forward: Lionel Messi (Barcelona)

Best Newcomer: Marco Asensio (Real Madrid on loan at Espanyol)

La Liga World Player of the Year: Luis Suarez (Barcelona)
