Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez introduced Frenkie De Jong and Ousmane Dembele in search of an equalizer.
De Jong combined with Ferran Torres to equalize for Barcelona in the 66th minute.
Brazilian defender Tuta received his second yellow card of the game in the 78th minute as Frankfurt played the rest of the game with 10-men.
Barcelona created some chances late in the game but could not convert as Frankfurt held on for a draw.
After the game, Barcelona fans expressed confidence that they would knock out Frankfurt when they play at the return leg at the Camp Nou next week.
