Arsenal beat Crystal Palace by 2-1 to win their first three points of the English Premier League season
Arsenal today, Sunday, August 16, return to winning ways in the English Premier League with a 2-1 win over host Crystal Palace.
The Gunners were defeated in the opening game last weekend at home to West Ham but with two changes to the first team, Arsene Wenger's boys battled to get their first three points of the season.
Arsenal started well with Alexis Sanchez missing a clear cut chance after a swift counter attacking move.
Passes from Santi Cazorla and Francis Coquelin released Mesut Ozil on the left and he slid Sanchez clear on goal.
Palace however recovered well as Joel Ward slid in to block the first effort from Sanchez and then James McArthur cleared off the line when the rebound presented the Arsenal No 17 with another chance.
Arsenal got the lead through Oliver Giroud who acrobatically convert an Ozil cross into the net.
Wenger's men would have doubled the lead on a number of occasion but failed to do so, no thanks to poor finishing.
Palace got an equaliser from their right back Ward.
Puncheon angled a long ball towards Yannick Bolasie, who chested the ball to McArthur, who teed-up Ward, charging forward.
Under no pressure, the right back rifled low to beat Petr Cech who has now conceded three goals in two games for Arsenal.
Palace started the brighter side in the second half as Connor Wickham hit the post after getting on a pass from Winfred Zaha.
Arsenal however took charge of the game to regain the lead with the help of an own goal.
Sanchez climbed above Ward at the back-post to meet Hector Bellerin’s cross but the header took a deflection from Damien Delaney into his own net.
