Super Eagles round up impressive 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign with a draw

The Super Eagles who had already sealed qualification to the World Cup took the lead through John Ogu in the 62nd minute before the Algerians levelled up from the spot kick late on.
Nigeria came into the game top of Group B with an unassailable 13 points while Algeria only had one point and are bottom of Group B.

With the Super Eagles already qualified for the 2018 World Cup, there was nothing but pride to play but Nigeria were looking to continue on their 35-match unbeaten streak that stretches all the way back to 2005.
For Algeria, new manager Rabah Madjer was looking to kick-start the new era with a win after a dismal 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign.
The Desert Warriors started the brighter side as a cross from the right was met by Islam Slimani but the Leicester City striker could not direct the header on target.
The Super Eagles replied instantly with Alex Iwobu picked out Kelechi Iheanacho who beat his man before crossing into the box.
Iheanacho was playing from the right wing while Anthony Nwakaeme playing his debut was positioned in the centre leading the attack.
The game settled early on as chances were very difficult to come by.
Nwakaeme attempted a shot from 25 yards while Iheanacho’s fierce freekick evaded everybody for a goal-kick.
There were some nervy moments as Super Eagles goalkeeper, starting his fourth consecutive game held on the ball for too long after receiving a backpass but he beat Slimani before clearing the ball.
After an uneventful first half, the second half was similar before Ogu pounced on a poor clearance in the front of the Algerian box before picking out his spot and beating the goalkeeper from over 10 yards out.
The Super Eagles were coasting to victory before the referee called a controversial penalty to Algeria from which Brahimi scored in the 88th minute.
Nigeria finish top of Group B with 14 points after four wins and two draws. Algeria finish bottom of the group with two points.
