Alex Iwobi scores for Arsenal while he was the only Nigerian player on duty in Saturday’s Premier League games
The 22-year-old Nigerian scored with a volley off a cross from Sead Kolasinac in the 16th minute.
Iwobi made for his horror show at the Etihad a week ago by scoring Arsenal’s first goal in their 2-1 win.
The 22-year-old Nigerian scored with a volley off a cross from Sead Kolasinac in the 16th minute.
Hanging at the back post, Iwobi volleyed the cross which deflected past Huddersfield stand-in goalkeeper Ben Hamer for Arsenal’s first goal.
Alexandre Lacazette doubled Arsenal’s lead in the 44th minute. Huddersfield later got a late goal via a Kolasinac own goal.
Better performance
Iwobi started from the right side of Arsenal’s attack and put in a much better performance than he did against Manchester City a week ago.
He connected well with Ainsley Maitland-Niles early in the game but his shot was wide from a very good position.
He created two chances for Lacazette, first playing a simple pass to the striker before another cross from the right by the Frenchman could not finish from both.
Iwobi switched to the left later in the first half from where he got on from a pass to score although the goal was correctly ruled off for offside.
He played from the left in the second half where he had some good interchange of play with Kolasinac although he could not manage any shot on target.
In what was his 23rd Premier League game of the season, Iwobi was taken off for Joe Willock in the 88th minute.
The Super Eagles star was the only Nigerian in action in the Premier League.
Isaac Success and Leon Balogun were not listed to Watford and Brighton & Hove in their respective games on Saturday.
