Akwa United Players, officials injured during Kano Pillars fans’ attack

Irate Kano Pillars fans attacked visiting Akwa United who beat the home side 1-0 NPFL game played on Sunday.

Several Akwa United players and officials were injured while their team bus was damaged from attacks by Kano Pillars fans.

Irate Kano Pillars fans attacked visiting Akwa United who beat the home side 1-0 in a Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) game played on Sunday, April 10.

Christian Pyagbara netted in the 19th minute slotting past Yusuf Mohammed to silence the crowd inside the Sani Abacha Stadium.

Midway through the second half, missiles were thrown into the pitch which hit and injured the referee.

The game was halted for a few minutes as players from both teams waited in the middle of the pitch.

After the game, Akwa United defenders Ofem Inah and Kodjo Dadzie were seriously beaten up by Pillars fans while assistant coach Effiong Moses was also attacked.

According to the official Twitter handle of Akwa United, tear gas was also thrown into their dressing room after the game.

The League Management Company (LMC) who are the organisers of the NPFL are yet to make any statement about the incident.
