Akwa United Fan of NPFL club dies in car crash

A fan of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, Akwa United died on Saturday, August 27 on his way to watch the club’s game against Enyimba.

Akwa United travelled to Port Harcourt where they lost 1-2 to Enyimba in an NPFL game.

On his way to the game, a fan of Akwa United died in a fatal bus crash which happened at the Ekparakwa junction in Akwa Ibom.

The bus the late fan was travelling in suffered a brake failure which led to the crash.

"The bus flipped over, one of our fans died in the tragedy and several others sustained serious injuries,”Akwa United spokesman Uwem Ekoh told BBC Sport.

"It happened about 30 minutes after they left Uyo, so the supporters have all returned home for immediate medical attention."

According to the official website of the NPFL, Akwa United is in ninth position while Enyimba sit in sixth.
