CAF in compliance to Article 74 of its regulations, decided who gets to play in the quarter-final between Guinea and Mali
Guinea and Mali were stuck in a two way lane on points and statistics and could only be seperated by a rule under the Confederation of African Football, CAF's Article 27 which states that in a case where there is a tie between two or three countries in a group, a draw-of-lots will be conducted.
The two countries ended the group with three draws from three games, conceding three goals and head-to-head could not seperate them as there was none better than the other.
''Article 74 :There will be two balls with position two (2) and position three (3), and the representative of the two teams will pick a ball from the pot. The one who picks position two (2) qualifies for the quarter final''
After the draw-of-lots by CAF on Thursday, Guinea was favoured to play in the quarter-final against Ghana who topped Group C.
Quarter Final clashed:
Congo vs RD Congo
Tunisia vs Eq. Guinea
Ghana vs Guinea
Cote D'Ivoire vs Algeria
It can be recalled that Nigeria was eliminated at the 2003 FIFA Youth Championship in a draw-of-lots against Costa Rica.
