The Red Devils of Congo improved play in their second group A game having drawn hosts Equatorial Guinea in the opening day.
The team led by Claude Le Roy beat their Gabonese opponents in Bata in the evening of Wednesday to go top of Group A.
Prince Alban Oniangue scored the only goal in the 50 minute to separate the East African nation from their Central African counterpart.
Congo top Group A with 4 points, followed by Gabon whose opening games day 3-1 win over Burkina Faso places them second on three points.
Hosts, Equatorial Guinea and Burkina Faso played out a goalless draw in the first game played the same day; they are third on two points, followed by the Burkinababes at bottom on one point.
