Hostilities in Group C of the African Cup of Nations resumed on Monday evening with the second game between Algeria and South Africa.

Three goals in sixteen minutes towards the end of the game cancelled out Bafana Bafana’s early second half goal.

South Africa went ahead with a Thuso Phala opener and would have been two goals up had striker Tokelo Rantie converted his penalty which hit the crossbar.

Algeria piled pressure on the South African defence and got rewarded with an own goal Thulani Hlatshwayo and that opened the chapter for an Algerian route.

Napoli defender Faouzi Ghoulam increased the lead for Africa's number one rated team five minutes later.

The game was completely out of reach for Shakes Mashaba's crop of young players when Islam Slimani added the third goal for the Christian Gourcuff led team.

Algeria go tops of Group C, followed by Senegal who beat Ghana 2-1 in the earlier game.

The Teranga Lions in likewise had to come from one goal down to beat the Black Stars with a late goal at the last seconds of time added on.
