Adama Traore signs a five-year contract at Villa Park with Barcelona reserving the right to buy him back in three years time
Barcelona youth star Adama Traore has joined English Premier League side Aston Villa, penning a five-year-deal with the Tim Sherwood led side.
The 19-year-old winger has made just four senior appearances for Barcelona and the Catalan giants has inserted a buy-back clause after agreeing the deal worth €10 million plus a potential €2m in add-ons with Villa.
Speaking after his move, Traore said signing for the club is an honour to him.
"It's an honour for me to come here," Adama told Villa's official website.
"It's a club that showed interest in me from the first moment and made me feel important in terms of their project.
"I have spoken to the manager and have a very good impression of him and what he wants from me. All this have made this club my top attraction.
"I would also like to express my gratitude to everyone at FC Barcelona for helping me develop as a player and as a person."
Sherwood will be a happy man after finally getting the forward he has admired for a long time.
The Aston Villa manager paid the young forward a personal visit in Spain to convince him to join him after being a long time admirer.
Sherwood revealed that he tried to sign the forward during his time as manager of Tottenham.
"I’ve known him for a couple of years. I tried to see if it was possible to bring him to Tottenham when I was there," Sherwood said.
"He is someone I have been tracking for a long time.
"I went to Barcelona and spoke to the representatives. We made a huge effort to bring him to the club. We showed him this is a great stage for him.
"He has played a lot of games for someone so young because he is physically a man.
"He is a big powerful boy, very quick, dynamic, maverick-type player, you never know what’s going to come out next.
After the exit of key players-Ron Vlaar, Fabian Delph and Christian Benteke- Traore becomes the ninth senior signing for Sherwood.
Micah Richards, Idrissa Gueye, Scott Sinclair, Jordan Veretout, Jordan Ayew, Jordan Amavi, Jose Angel Crespo and Rudy Gestede have al been signed by the Midlands club.
Traore was born in Spain to an immigrant couple from Mali in 1996 in the maternity hospital next to the the Nou Camp .
His father worked as a mechanic and his mother as a housekeeper.
He has an elder brother who plays for Cordoba and for Mali.
Though Traore has repesented Spain in the youth level, he is yet to reveal the country he will play for in the senir level.
