Second half goals from Gbolahan Salami and Odion Ighaloundefined for the Stephen Keshi led side in Kaduna.
Kanu who played in five African Cup of Nations for the super Eagles describe the win as as a good beginning for the team in the qualifiers
"Thanks for all your prayers and support. Nigeria 2-0 chad. Well done boys and congratulations to keshi and the team. Good start, so keep it up," Kanu wrote on Twitter.
Super Eagles will hope to continue with the winning form when they confront Tanzania on September 6.
