World heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has denied allegations that he is being investigated for doping.

The Sunday Mirror claims the WBA, WBO and IBO belt-holder is being probed after testing positive for banned anabolic steroid nandrolone in a sample taken prior to dethroning Wladimir Klitschko last November.

It was alleged by the newspaper that the Brit could be stripped of his titles and slapped with a long ban.

The 27-year-old's team and promoter Hennessy Sports issued a statement to rubbish the allegations, as he recovers from an ankle injury that prompted him to postpone a rematch with Klitschko, which was scheduled for July 9.

"We are baffled by today's story in the Sunday Mirror. Tyson Fury absolutely denies any allegation of doping," the statement said.

"He looks forward to recovering from his injury and defending his titles against Wladimir Klitschko in October."

Meanwhile, Anthony Joshua's promoter, Eddie Hearn, is optimistic that the allegations against Fury will not derail a potential British heavyweight showdown with his man in the future.

Joshua retained his IBF belt on Saturday, knocking out Dominic Breazeale at the O2 Arena in London, moving to 17-0.

There has been widespread speculation that Joshua and Fury will step into the ring in the near future, and Hearn hopes the current saga involving Fury will not put paid to that.

"To be honest, I haven't heard too much about it [the doping allegations], but it's been a hot subject when we've been speaking in the last couple of weeks," said Hearn.

"So it's a shame because he [Fury] has been working very hard to get to where he is.

"Hopefully he can overcome it and get back to winning ways because it's a fight [against Joshua] that everyone wants to see and something that I'm serious about."
