Conor McGregor 'Floyd Mayweather needs me'

If Conor McGregor is to fight Floyd Mayweather the financial terms must be improved, says the big-talking UFC star.

Conor McGregor has no intention of taking a "pay cut" in order to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr and insists the American needs the bout more than he does.

Rumours of a lucrative, mouth-watering fight between the pair have grown in strength in recent weeks with Mayweather himself stating a bout will "absolutely" happen.

UFC featherweight champion McGregor is open to the idea, but is adamant that he will be the one dictating financial terms.

And while TMZ Sports reported that Mayweather has offered McGregor $50million to fight him, the Irishman claimed a much lower sum was put forward to face the undefeated boxing great.

"I hear the boy talking," McGregor told ESPN's SportsCenter. "The leak came out and it was him that leaked the rumour, and I said, 'He gets $100million and I get $7m?' That's a pay cut to me; I don't take pay cuts.

"I thought boxing was where the money was at. $7m is absolutely laughable – he's talking $100m, I'm also talking $100m."

McGregor also claimed that Mayweather, who would have to come out retirement to take the fight, will not be able to generate as much money from a bout against any other fighter.

"Who else can he fight? [If] he fights someone else in the boxing realm, all of a sudden the pay goes from $100m to $15m," he added.

"He needs me, I don't need him. That's the truth of it. If he wants to talk we can talk, but it's me who’s in control here."

McGregor said he is willing to fight Mayweather under the rules of boxing, since pugilism is well within his multi-faceted set of combat skills.

He added: "I don't care about rules. He can make all the rules he wants. I will put aside many other forms of fighting that I practice in, and I will focus on one particular craft."
