Ebola Fears Arise As US Official Is Attacked With Syringe In Lagos

A US air marshal was reportedly attacked with a syringe at the Lagos airport

According to reports, fears of Ebola have arisen after a United States Air Marshal was attacked with a syringe at the Lagos airport.

The Guardian reports that the officer has been taken to a US hospital. The incident was disclosed by the FBI on Monday.

It is not clear what was in the syringe the marshal was attacked with and neither his name nor the hospital he was admitted in has been revealed.

However, according to the Guardian,  fears have been raised that the syringe could have carried some form of the Ebola virus because Nigeria is one of the West African countries where the epidemic has spread.

The FBI has reportedly said that all necessary precautions are being taken but that initial signs show that the victim is not a danger to others.

According to an FBI statement:

"Out of an abundance of caution, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention conducted an on-scene screening of the victim when United Flight 143 landed in Houston early Monday morning,"

"The victim did not exhibit any signs of illness during the flight and was transported to a hospital upon landing for further testing. None of the testing conducted has indicated a danger to other passengers."
