Singapore tops the list as the most expensive city in the world

With a loaf of bread, bottle of wine, and a pack of cigarettes costing an equivalent of $39.11 together, Singapore, Singapore has emerged as the world's most expensive city. This is according to The Economist Group’s biannual list of the world’s most expensive cities.

The list sees a majority of the cities coming from Asia, Western Europe and Australia.

According to Time Magazine, The Economist Intelligence Unit surveys the cost of living across the world every two years, comparing prices across about 160 product and service categories including food, rent, and recreational costs.

About 50,000 prices were surveyed in 2014.
