Lebanon’s newly elected president, former Army General Michel Aoun, on Monday, vowed to protect the country and called for national unity in an oath taken before the parliament.

“National unity is the basis of the stability and security of the country,” Aoun said.

His election ended a presidential vacuum of more than two years.
