Reports say lawyers for Brown's parents promised the case would bring to light new forensic evidence that would raise doubts about the police version of events.

The parents of Michael Brown, the teenager whose fatal shooting by a white police officer sparked protests in the United States have filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against the city of Ferguson.

Should the suit come to trial, it could force a full review of all the evidence in the shooting and bring key witnesses to be questioned in open court, including Darren Wilson, the officer who shot Brown.

According to the Associated Press, Former Police Chief Tom Jackson declined to discuss the lawsuit saying  he was unaware of it until a reporter told him and had not had a chance to review the allegations.

18-year old Brown was unarmed and walking in the street with a friend on August 9th when officer Wilson told them to move to the sidewalk which led to a heated confrontation and degenerated into Wilson shooting Brown.

Although a St. Louis County grand jury and the U.S. Justice Department declined to prosecute Wilson, who resigned in November, the Justice Department released a scathing report citing racial bias and racial profiling in the Ferguson Police Department.

This also sparked protests where 2 white police officers were shot.
