McIver, who worked with Melania Trump on the speech, reportedly accepted the blame for the plagiarism scandal currently rocking the Donald Trump's political campaign.

The writer, on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, released a statement explaining how she included some of the passages of Michelle Obama’s 2008 speech in Melania's speech after finding out Mrs Trump's admiration for the incumbent First lady.

“A person she has always liked is Michelle Obama. Over the phone, she read me some passages of Mrs. Obama’s speech as examples. I wrote them down and later included some of the phrasing in the draft that ultimately became the final speech,” McIver said.
