United States House Speaker, John Boehner is set to visit Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu in Israel, Al Jazeera reports.

Boehner's visit is scheduled to take place in April at some point during a two-week congressional recess.

Earlier in March, Netanyahu had addressed Congress on Boehner's invitation (without notifying the White House), warning the US against reaching a "bad deal" in talks with Iran on its nuclear programme.

Obama Administration officials and several Congressional Democrats criticised the speech, calling it a political ploy.

On the other hand, Republicans have been highly critical of President Barack Obama over the deteriorating relationship with Israel. During Netanyahu's campaign, he vowed not to allow the establishment of a Palestinian state, angering the White House. He has since tempered those remarks, but the White House still warned there would be "consequences".

Last week, President Obama called Netanyahu to congratulate him on his election victory, but warned him that the US was reassessing its approach to Israeli-Palestinian peace in the wake of Mr Netanyahu's comments.
