CNN anchor resigns after anti-Israel tweets

Clancy’s retirement came one week after he mocked pro-Israel activists on Twitter and used an insulting term for disabled people.

Veteran CNN anchor, Jim Clancy on Friday, January 16, resigned his job at the network after a 34-year career.

The CNN correspondent made the controversial comments during a discussion about the recent attack on the Paris office of satirical magazine, Charlie Hebdo.

“The cartoons NEVER mocked the Prophet,” he wrote. “They mocked how the COWARDS tried to distort his word. Pay attention,” Clancy tweeted on January 7, the day of the attack.

When questioned, he replied his challenger “You and the Hasbara team need to pick on some cripple at the edge of the herd.”

Clancy announced his resignation in a statement saying:

“After nearly 34 years with Cable News Network, the time has come to say Farewell! It has been my honor to work alongside all of you for all of these years.”

“This is one of the greatest news organizations in the world. It has truly revolutionized information delivery while driving technological advances in how we gather the news. Through it all, CNN has been a family to my own family. That means something. As I reflect on all of the great adventures and achievements of the past, I wish you great success in the future,” he added.

CNN confirmed the resignation but said nothing about Clancy’s Twitter rant.

“Jim Clancy is no longer with CNN. We thank him for more than three decades of distinguished service, and wish him nothing but the best,” a spokesperson for the network said.

Clancy’s Twitter account was also deactivated after the incident.
