2 Germans to get 3 strokes of cane for vandalism

2 Germans have been sentenced to three strokes of a rattan cane in Singapore, this is according to Big Story.

The duo, 22-year-old Andreas Von Knorre and 21-year-old Elton Hinz who will also spend nine months in prison were sentenced after being found guilty of vandalizing a public train carriage.

Reports say they entered a Singapore train depot at night in November and sprayed paint on a train that was parked there. Afterwards, they left Singapore but were later spotted by police in Bangkok, and eventually arrested in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. From here they were extradited back to Singapore.

Singapore train operator SMRT suffered roughly 13,650 Singapore dollars (that's about $9963) in damages from the incident.

The Germans are not the first foreigners to be caned and jailed for vandalised. In 2010, Swiss IT consultant Oliver Fricker was jailed five month; a sentence that was later raised to seven on appeal, and received three strokes of the cane, also for vandalizing a public train parked at a depot.

Singapore currently ranks as the most expensive city in the world.
