A lawmaker from Myanmar's largest opposition party was attacked by three men with machetes on Thursday night, just over a week before a historic Nov. 8 election, and has been hospitalized, his campaign manager said.

Naing Nan Lynn, a lower house lawmaker from Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy party, who is running for a seat in the regional assembly in Yangon, was attacked while campaigning around 9:30 p.m. by three men holding machetes.

The men injured three people in Naing Nan Lynn's campaign truck. The candidate suffered serious injuries after being hit on his head and his arm, said Aung Myo Oo, an NLD campaign manager who witnessed the attack.

The injured were being treated at Yangon General Hospital, where crowds of on-lookers, passers-by and NLD supporters wearing the party's red shirts gathered.
