The death toll from a car bomb blast in northeast Lebanon near the Syrian border on Thursday has risen to nine, with four other people wounded, security sources said.

Militants linked to the conflict across the border in Syria have carried out attacks in and around Arsal in the past.

The blast went off in a commercial area of the Sabil neighbourhood of the town of Arsal. The initial death toll was two people.
