An unidentified gunman has taken a number of people hostage at a post office in Colombes, a suburb of Paris.

The unidentified hostage-taker was reportedly armed with a Kalashnikov rifle, a gun and numerous grenades.

The incident is said to have begun at about 12pm today, January 16, and the gunman was reportedly "speaking incoherently".
Local officials also told Liberation newspaper that the suspect “is disappointed in love” and is a customer “who lost his head” and speaks of “heartbreak.”
However, the gunman has now surrendered to police after negotiations. None of his victims was harmed.
It is not clear if his actions are linked to terrorism but BFM TV, citing an unidentified source, has said that they are not.
France has been on red alert ever since two gunmen, Cherif and Said Kouachi, stormed the offices of satirical magazine, Charlie Hebdo, on January 7 killing 12 people.
