Tamale Floods: One dead, tens displaced

The rain which started early Sunday poured heavily for 5-6 hour and drenched many parts of the metropolis.

Flooding the Northern Regional capital Tamale has left one dead while displacing many others.

One woman is reported dead in the floods following hours of torrential rain over the weekend in many parts of Northern Ghana.

Communities affected include Sawaba, Belpela, Gumani, Datoyili, Kalariga, Sagnarigu, and Kulnyevila. Several houses, farms and livestovk have been gravely affected by the floods.

In the past, flooding in Northern Ghana has mainly been because of the overspill of the Bagre Dam in neighbouring Burkina Faso which is usually announced between July and September.

Flooding in Ghana has become a cause of major concern in recent with occurrence in major cities such as Accra, Tema and Kumasi assuming a perennial role.

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) consistently complains of a lack of resources to distribute disaster relief items; such as food, mattresses and tents to those affected by natural disasters.
