From braiding hair to cooking banku, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije will do anything for your vote

Alfred Oko Vanderpuije will do anything for you to make him the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South.

Generally, it has been a matter of giving a few notes of cedis, greeting every single person they meet, ‘lowering’ themselves to the normal Ghanaian to share a bowl of Tuo Zaafi or play checkers just to influence the pattern in which people vote.

This year however, there is a game changer.

Candidates have milked on every opportunity made available by the intense social media game.

Social media also gives voters the opportunity to see what their candidates are up to elsewhere.

The latest they’ve seen, Accra Mayor Alfred Oko Vanderpuije.

Accra Mayor Alfred Oko Vanderpuije is running to be a Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South in the upcoming general Ghana elections in December.

In a bid to secure some votes ahead of Election 2016, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije deviated from the ‘one this, one that’ jargons other politicians are throwing around.

Instead he showed his hair braiding and banku cooking skills.

A photo making rounds on social media sees the Mayor of Accra braiding the hair of a comfortably seated young lady. The reaction of a woman in a red dress behind the Mayor is priceless.

Fast forward or fast rewind, depending on which picture was taken first, Alfred Oko Vanderpuije is also seen fervently cooking banku in a small corner, obviously not his home.

This could just be an act of kindness from the AMA boss. But let’s face it. This is 2016. An election year. Less than two months to the polls to be precise. Votes are needed. And candidates will do anything for it.

Please, let’s  be serious.
