Disaster looms as Kaneshie footbridge rots away

The bridge has developed wide cracks putting the lives of hundreds of people who use it daily in danger.

 

The condition of one of the two pedestrian footbridges at the Kaneshie Market is in a deplorable state and poses a serious threat to the life of pedestrians and traders.Not only has the footbridge developed serious cracks, there are also gaping holes on the concrete with the rusty knots begging to be replaced.The bridge has developed wide cracks putting the lives of hundreds of people who use it daily in danger.

Starr News’ reporter, Prince Afotey who visited the area reported that hawkers expressed their fears at using the bridge as they fear it would collapse soon.One hawker said, “The Bridge is weak so if we are standing on it to sell we are scared because it’s risky”.A pedestrian who spoke to Starr News also accused the Accra Metropolitan Authority (AMA) of neglecting the footbridge after persistent calls on them to repair before something disastrous happens.
