Mother charged for murder of 8 children

37-year-old Mersane Warria has been accused of killing seven of her children and her 14-year-old niece. She also stabbed herself and is currently recovering in a hospital.

Australian police have said that murder charges have been filed against the mother of seven out of eight children who were found dead in a Cairns home on Friday, December 19.

37-year-old Mersane Warria has been accused of killing seven of her children and her 14-year-old niece. She also stabbed herself and is currently recovering in a hospital.

Warria was found in the home alongside the children’s bodies with several knives that may have been used to kill them. Police also believe that she might have suffocated some of the children.

“We are considering that and that's why it's taking a bit of time. It could be a range of things, from suffocation to a thousand other things,” Queensland Police Detective Inspector Bruno Asnicar said.
