Affected EA 189 diesel engine

On Monday, November 23rd, the CEO, Matthias Müller, of Volkswagen announced that the company has found a fix for most of the problematic four-cylinder diesel engines discovered to have been fitted with the “defeat device” software.

Now, the German automaker has posted a video of the plan on YouTube.

The video shows the company's plan for fixing the affected EA 189 diesel engines, which are the 1.6-liter and 2-liter powerplants involved in the ongoing emissions cheating scandal.

Volkswagen gives a two-step solution.

The first is an engine control software update while the second step deals with the installation of a "flow transformer," which is a plastic grating that's supposed to help even out the flow of air going into the mass flow sensor.
