Financial price comparison site TopCheck hosted its launch event in Lagos. TopCheck provides an internet platform, where users can compare the prices and benefits of different insurance products online, from the comfort of their home.

TopCheck was founded by two German tech entrepreneurs who came to Nigeria for the enormous opportunities in the country. Using the platform is for free. TopCheck is adding new products besides insurance in the upcoming months. The Nigerian office of TopCheck is in Lekki, Lagos.

Last Thursday, financial price comparison platform TopCheck invited the press as well as selected guests to celebrate the Company’s successful launch in Nigeria. TopCheck hosted the event at their Lekki office.

TopCheck is the 'Moneysupermarket of Africa', a price comparison platform for financial services like insurance, banking, or loans. TopCheck, which was founded by techentrepreneurs Christian Wiesner and Thomas Pilar earlier this year, provides an innovative internet platform, where Nigerian internet users can compare and buy insurance policies directly from insurance companies from their mobile phone or their computer.

“We offer a platform that set the standards of buying insurance by providing the fastest, most secure and most comfortable way to do so. We connect insurance companies directly with insurance seekers on our website Additional product categories will be innovated soon.” says Thomas Pilar.

Wiesner and Pilar stem from Germany, but came to Nigeria because they felt attracted by the abundance of opportunities in the country. “We love Nigeria” says Wiesner. “Here in Nigeria, we experience a level of dynamism and a optimistic business mentality that we miss in Germany. For this reason Thomas and I moved here recently.”

Nigeria’s online market shows tremendous potential for e-commerce businesses. Recent numbers show that the enormous amount of 97.2 million Nigerians is already connected to the internet. provides a new marketing channel for financial service providers to extend their reach to this massive audience. The Company is leading in online marketing, which it applies to connect insurance seekers and insurance companies.

Over the next months, TopCheck will expand its product portfolio by offering additional insurance products as well as banking products like loans or credit cards. The business model is well trusted in most other parts of the world, where users enjoy the comfort of those sites as well as the opportunity to save money with just a few clicks.

In the UK, for instance, around 60% of all car insurance policies are sold via platforms like TopCheck. “We hope to increase the trust level for insurance products with our transparent platform, its German technology, as well as all the convenience aspects to enhance the insurance penetration in Nigeria” says Christian Wiesner.

TopCheck is backed by European investors and has offices in Lagos, Berlin/Germany and Bialystok/Poland. The company currently consists of a team of 12 employees.
