Mark Zuckerberg announces free video calls on instant messaging app

You can use video calling for WhatsApp now in Nigeria as long as you have the latest version of the WhatsApp app.

About a month ago, Pulse Tech reported that WhatsApp was launching a video calling feature. Today, Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook (which owns WhatsApp) announced in a post that the feature has gone live.

Zuckerberg, via the Facebook post, said the video calling feature has been one of the most requested since the apps voice calling feature launched in March 2015.

The feature has been in beta testing for a few weeks and Zuckerberg says the team behind the feature made sure it works even in places without a strong network.

This means that WhatsApp will be going into direct competition with video calling apps like Microsoft's Skype, Apple's FaceTime, and Google's recently launched Duo.

The global rollout of the video calling feature is currently underway and Zuckerberg, responding to a question about the feature's availability, says every WhatsApp user should have it in "the next couple of weeks."

This is the next biggest feature that WhatsApp has incorporated into its service following the addition of voice calls and document sharing.
