Tech giant records over 1 million rides in Kenya within 15 months

Uber says it has travelled around 8,000,000 km in the time since it began operations in Kenya. That’s the distance of 10 trips to the moon and back.

The new Uber wordmark

Tech giant, Uber, has announced that exactly 15 months since it began operations in Kenya, it has recorded over one million trips, according to a Techmoran report.

“It’s been over 15 months since Uber hit the streets of Kenya, and it’s been an absolutely exhilarating ride. We are humbled to have moved with you over a million times in Nairobi and Mombasa,” the company announced. “Over 100,000 of you choose Uber every month and since launching in Kenya we have facilitated over a million trips through the platform!”

Uber says it has travelled around 8,000,000 km in the time since it began operations in Kenya. That’s the distance of 10 trips to the moon and back.

The company said it has an average ETA of 4 minutes in Kenya with the longest ride clocking in at 3 hours over a distance of almost 300km.

I should also mention that in the time Uber has launched in Kenya, it has successfully - and slowly - killed off its competition: Rocket Internet's (AIG) EasyTaxi, SasaCabs, and MaraMojaTransport have all gone under since.
