Tech company launches cash payment option in Lagos

Lagos becomes the third city in Africa, after Nairobi and Cairo, to get the feature in the works

Uber users can now pay in cash

According to various media reports, Uber Lagos has just announced that it will launch a cash payment experiment in Lagos starting Monday January 18, 2016.

“Paying with cash is really important for people in Nigeria so this is an exciting experiment for us. We want everyone to enjoy the hassle-free convenience of ordering a safe, reliable ride at the touch of a button. This cash experiment in Lagos will give us some great insights and help us develop our technology to best meet the needs of the local consumers,” said Ebi Atawodi, General Manager for Uber Lagos, according to TechCabal.

Lagos becomes the third city in Africa, after Nairobi and Cairo, to get the feature in the works, and TechCabal’s Osarumen Osamuyi reckons it should spur growth, just like it has in other cities.

When the feature gets rolling, riders only need to choose the cash payment option, take the ride, and pay the driver in cash at the end of the trip.

The roll out will happen gradually over a few weeks so it will not be available to everyone from the get-go.
