Tech company responds to Taxify with its own 40% price cut

The challenge is still on (just like it's been for a while) for the race to dominate the Lagos on-demand ride-hailing market.

Last week, just after Taxifyannounced that it was cutting down its prices, Uber responded with a 40% price cut in Lagos.

It’s no secret that the on-demand ride-hailing war is between Uber and everybody else and Taxify has been grabbing a lot of Uber drivers lately.

In a statement, Uber said, “We want to make sure that Uber is an affordable way to move around your city, so we’re dropping rates in Lagos by 40% from Thursday 4th May 2017.

“Therefore you can now request a high-quality ride for the same price as small chops! Whether you’re running a quick errand, visiting friends or commuting to work, Uber has got you covered for less.”

Apart from the fact the Uber was losing drivers to Taxify, it was also losing riders as well since Taxify was cheaper and Nigerians generally don’t mind a less comfortable ride for a smaller fee.

Here are Uber's new rates using sample locations:

Magodo to Gbagada — Formerly from N1,100; Now from N600Yaba to Ilupeju — Formerly from N1,300; Now from N800Surulere to Ikeja — Formerly from N2,000; Now from N1,200

The challenge is still on (just like it's been for a while) for the race to dominate the Lagos on-demand ride-hailing market. Who will win? Who will receive the short end of the stick? Driver? Riders?
