On Tuesday, April 5, 2016, popular social media platform, Twitter, launched a new button that lets users share tweets directly from the timeline to the direct message box.

With the new button, Twitter hopes to increase one-to-one interaction between users - cutting down on one-to-many connections - and in the process boosting user growth.

According to Twitter product manager, Somas Thyagaraja, millions of direct messages are sent daily at Twitter, and the number of tweets shared privately tripled in the second half of last year.

“With all this interest, we’ve also heard from many of you that it could be easier to share a Tweet using Direct Message. So now, in just a few taps, you can share unique Twitter content from your timeline right into your private conversation,” said Thyagaraja.

This is another feature which Twitter has added to its platform in recent months, in addition to things like GIFs, emoji's and a limitless amount of characters.

The new feature is available to both Android and iOS users.
